Reply with quote | #1 | Bill Veeck, one-time owner of the St. Louis Browns baseball team, was known for pulling many stunts to increase attendance at his team's games. He's the guy that put in a midget to pinch hit because the strike zone was so small it was a garaunteed walk. He pulled a lot of other stunts, too, that did get butts in seats.
So I have a few Veeck ideas for theatrical distribution of Indie Films. I put them out here for any enterprising distributor our Arthouse Theatre Owner to help increase business.
1) PAY WHAT IT'S WORTH - Tell the audience the movie isn't free, but you pay what you think it's worth on the way out. A good shill man could jack the price up. "How much did you pay to see the new Indiana Jones movie? Was it worth it? Is this movie is ten times better than that so pay us $100 a ticket. No? How about $7? Better?"
2) PAY TO SEE THE FINAL REEL - Let people in for free, but tell the audience you're going to stop the movie before the end, and if you want to stay to see how it turns out, you have to buy a ticket. Anyone without a ticket will have to leave the theatre. This will work well with whodonnits, as people have a natural need to know who the killer is.
3) VARIABLE TICKET PRICING - It costs $10 to see a big budget movie, so why not $5 to see a low budget one?
What do you think? Got any other ideas? __________________ DWF 2000 Winner Best Screenplay "Jacks or Better"

Reply with quote | #2 | Let them see your movie for free streaming from your site.
Then use a tie-in to the film to some organization. (If it's sports, use a local Kids baseball program, if it's education, choose a low income school district)
Then after they watched the movie on the site, tell them they can purchase the DVD and HALF the price will be DONATED to a particular organization. (It's a tax write off for the buyer)
Even if you sell the movie for 10 bucks, and donate 5, you still make more than you would with any studio distribution model.
We're doing this at http://www.charityfilms.com check it out. It works well AND your film sales helps support a cause. Because of the nature of SPEECHLESS, we're donating to CPU.
