Dear Friends,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to let you know that my film An American Affair opens this Friday (March 6) in Los Angeles. Set in Kennedy-era Washington, the film tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a thirteen-year-old boy and a world weary mistress of JFK. The film "dramatizes the flight from childhood, the surrender to adulthood and the pieces of us that survive" (Washington Post - 02/27/09). What I learnt the hard way this past week is how incredibly important the opening weekend is for an independent film. As I am sure most of you are familiar with, the fate of a movie is decided on Monday mornings when distributors look at the numbers for the past weekend. We opened in NY and DC last Friday. In DC, were we had a very strong attendance, the film will continue to play and possibly expand to another theatre. In NY however, were the numbers weren’t as promising, the film is being pulled from the theatre. If, with your help, we have a great opening weekend in LA, the film will continue to play there and possibly expand. So it is my sincerest hope that you will spread the word about the film amongst family, friends and colleagues... and if possible, lead the way by attending one of the showings this weekend. The film is playing at the Laemmle Sunset 5 in West Hollywood. The screening times are as follows: 1:50pm | 4:40pm | 7:30pm | 10:00pm I will be at the theatre for a Q&A after the 7:30 screening on both Friday and Saturday. Would love to see you there. Tickets can be purchased at: http://www.laemmle.com/viewtheatre.php?date=03062009&thid=2 Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continuous support. Sincerely, William P.S. For those of you who are interested, the soundtrack by composer Dustin O'Halloran is now available on iTunes.
