Reply with quote | #1 | First, if you're reading this and you weren't at the Filmmaker's meeting - and you have unanswered questions that myself or other Dancers might be able to help you with, ask away. That's what this message board is for.
Second - something I forgot to mention re: promotion and parties.
Pre-screening parties seem to work really well for getting people to come to your movie. Don't ask me why, don't know - I think it might be that some people think "oh, it's some independent film... then you have to go to the party and pretend you like it..." so they talk themselves out of going. Of course, if they do go - then they come up to you afterwards and say, "you made a ... a... REAL movie."
But if they hear there's a get together for drinks or brunch or dinner BEFORE the movie, then for some reason, everyone's happy to come.
Don't know why, but it's worked in the past. __________________ DWF 2000 Winner Best Screenplay "Jacks or Better"

Reply with quote | #2 | Haha, that's kind of funny. Human psychology I guess.
I won't ask any questions because I'm waiting to hear from Cooper how the meeting went, lol, so hopefully she'll let me know. |

Reply with quote | #3 | Thanks Robert, great advice!
So I'd like to organize buying a big Variety Ad to promote DWF's dates, location, and list the movies of people who chip in!
An ad is 2k, but if 50 people chip in $40...!
You up for it?? Contact me. LisFies@gmail.com
If enough people reply initially, I'll set up an easy paypal link and organize the purchase/design. Let me know if anyone out there has mad press skills and wants to take the design on...

"This film is a WILD psychological thriller with a surprise ending that you will NEVER forget!!!! Be sure to see this one!"
- Kip Brown, In The Can
"Fies works with a dreamy unease and subtle power. The true horror of the piece does not kick in until the final moments, but Fies rewards the patient among us with quirky characterizations, bizarre encounters and intense sexuality."

I've used OvernightPrints.com in the past for postcards and such. Their quality is pretty good for the price but I've yet to recieve anything "overnight" ;-) In their defense, they never promised me overnight but it did take a week or so. YMMV
As for the Variety ad, sounds fun! I'll email you seperately.

Reply with quote | #11 | I concur on Overnight Prints being cheap and good, but "overnight" for them definitely means longer than you'd expect.
BTW, I have a 20% off discount code for Overnight Prints. At checkout use this code:

Thanks for suggestion on party -- for any alumni or those familiar with the Laemmle 5 center -- any easy suggestion to have a pre-screening gathering for our film? (Edgar Allan Poe's Annabel Lee)

Reply with quote | #13 | I've spoken to Sushi Dan about a pre-screening party, and they seem awfully friendly to the idea. |
